ALBANY, N.Y.—The New York Insurance Scholarship Foundation, Inc. (NYISF) awarded its 2019–2020 scholarship to Sylvia DeMarree from Sodus, NY and Elizabeth Liu from Melville, NY. DeMarree is a senior at Rochester Institute of Technology majoring in applied statistics and actuarial science and minoring in advertising and public relations. Liu is a junior at Northeastern University majoring in mathematics and finance and minoring in data science.

“The New York Insurance Scholarship Foundation is proud to recognize exemplary scholars with a passion for the insurance and risk management industry like Sylvia and Elizabeth.” Ellen Melchionni, president of NYISF said. “Both students have already made notable accomplishments in their academic careers, it is apparent that their potential contributions to the next chapter of insurance are boundless.”

NYISF was founded to encourage scholastic achievement, community involvement and a commitment to advancing the insurance industry. “DeMarree and Liu exemplify all of these qualities,” Melchionni said. “Both students carry admirable grade point averages, have established insurance industry experience, play an active role in their communities and are immersed in enriching hobbies and interests.”
