ALBANY, N.Y., Sept. 8, 2022—The New York Insurance Scholarship Foundation, Inc. (NYISF) has named Tracy Akuoko from Albany, N.Y. and Elizabeth Morgan from Binghamton, N.Y. as the foundation’s 2022–2023 New York Insurance Scholars. Akuoko is a post graduate student at Utica University pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree, specializing in risk management and insurance. Morgan is a junior at Le Moyne College majoring in risk management, insurance and marketing and minoring in management information systems.

“The New York Insurance Scholarship Foundation is honored to have the opportunity to reward students of such high caliber,” Ellen Melchionni, president of NYISF said. “This year’s New York Insurance Scholars have achieved admirable grade point averages while balancing community work, internships and active participation in campus insurance related groups. Tracy and Elizabeth’s dedication to the future of the insurance industry is evident in their hard work and commitment to success.”

New York Insurance Scholars is a new program, which expands the work of the foundation and enhances the support provided to students by awarding annual scholarships to recipients for up to two years. The program also includes mentorships with seasoned insurance leaders, resources for potential jobs or internships and visibility and networking with industry executives.

The foundation was created to encourage scholastic achievement, community involvement and a commitment to advancing the insurance industry. Fostering and investing in the development of our future leaders is parallel to the sustainability of the insurance and risk management industry of tomorrow. “The insurance industry has been and will remain a rewarding and vital field of employment,” Melchionni said. “The nurturing of new talent is essential in the future of the industry as technology and consumer needs are always changing.”
